We all knew mass-produced 3D printed goods were coming, but it looks like Nike is the first to actually bring it to market. “Flyprint” is the first entirely 3D printed shoe, and since there is no glue required to any of the seams together, they’re also one of the lightest on the market as well. No word yet on what the price point will be, but we’re pretty sure these will “fly” off the shelves!

Graphic designer Emanuele Abrate shows us famous logos, with a catch. Instead of the brand name rendered in the familiar typefaces, it’s the name of the typeface itself. Amazingly, even without the name of the company, it’s still very obvious which company is what. Which goes to show, branding is more than a name! A pull of the red tab on a pair A-dam Underwear will reveal an unexpected piece of art that also happens to be functional to boot — it allows the consumer to check the fabric, waistband and size. A new compression standard for JPEG files has the creative world abuzz: ‘JPEG XS’ will allow for HD video to be streamed without the loss of quality you expect from videos you watch on the go. Whether it’s on your phone or over a shaky wifi connection, grainy videos are almost not worth watching. The proposed JPEG XS will make those grainy, unwatchable videos a thing of the past.

Graphic designers Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens decided to convert handwritings of great artists such as David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Leonard Cohen into digital typefaces. By scouring notes, letters and postcards, the designers were able to get a good population of handwritten examples to create typefaces based on the handwriting of the iconic artists. Sorry, the handwriting of your doctor to write you a note to get out of work or gym class is not yet available.
