Amazon has become almost unrecognizable from its origins as a humble online bookseller. But now, they’ve got a new suite of ads that harken back to their literary-slinging roots by encouraging people to read. They’ve got one that covers almost any genre that floats your boat, from fantasy to thrillers to romance. 19 illustrators were tapped to create the 110 total artworks, and each piece came with a prompt that was just one word and the type of book they were meant to convey visually. We think they knocked it out of the park!

We’ve all heard ad nauseum that AI is coming for all of our jobs. However, this article from CNBC has some encouraging news for those of us in the graphic design field. Turns out, even the visual output from AI is only as good as the human prompts that help create it. Graphic designers have always been encouraged to have a “plus” skill: years ago, adding light copywriting was an added bonus to the skillset, and more recently knowing how to code. AI seems to be the next big shift, and learning how to use it to make us even more effective at our jobs seems like the most surefire way to help us continue to add value…and therefore be irreplaceable!

We had to collect ourselves a little bit before we tackled the rebrand that’s been on everyone’s minds: the picot from Twitter to X. Normally, we like to showcase rebrands and logo updates that are steps in the right direction, and show a company is keeping up with the items, as inspiration for our own work and to inspire our blog readers. This article from pimpmytype.com does a really great job of explaining why the X redesign is a failure, and not in a judgemental way. This fairly deep dive into the choices made and why they were poor ones serves as a great reminder the next time you’re faced with a rebrand, either your own or one you’re hired to do!

When it comes to cat food, most cat owners tend to stash the unattractive packaging away in cupboards or under sinks. The usual packaging designs are rarely inspiring. Maowoo cat food is here to break the packaging design mold! The cat food company enlisted DXD Studio to totally overhaul their look, and to ensure their product is eye-catching on the shelf. The carrying handle is a nice perk to boot! The most significant challenge faced by the design team was to find the sweet spot between “lifestyle aesthetics” and “scientific cat care.” Maowoo wanted to present its products as both visually appealing and highlight the scientific claims of health to establish trust and credibility with their customers. DXD Studio managed to strike the perfect balance, creating packaging that not only looks impressive but also highlights the brand’s commitment to providing healthy and high-quality cat food!

People are used to traveling to see masterpiece works of art, but did anyone ever think that the art could use a vacation once in a while? Well, EasyJet did! This clever campaign shows the Mona Lisa, the Girl with a Pearl Earring, and other recognizable classics in a new context: relaxing and “off the clock”! And so who is better to encourage travelers to take a vacation, than someone who has been stuck in one place for hundreds of years!
