The History of the ADIDAS Logos

Adolf Dassler, the German (West German at the time) sportsman and inventor of ADIDAS, was a visionary in the world of athletic footwear. Starting with simple sneakers in 1920, Dassler founded ‘Adi Dassler addas Sportschuhfabrik’ (say that three times fast) in 1949, which later became ‘adidas’ due to a trademark conflict, and introduced the iconic three-stripe mark. Turns out, the “All Day I Dream About Soccer” acronym rumor that went around when we were in school is totally false! In 1972, ahead of the infamous Munich Olympics, the Trefoil symbol was created by another designer, Hans Fick, symbolizing athletic excellence and the olympic laurel wreath.
