Everyone knows about the open floor plan model that began to be embraced by companies several years ago, but many experts agree that it went too far and generated boredom rather than efficiency. The New York Times has the scoop on how “activity-based workplace design” is catching on big time. Think largely open floor plans, but with “team spaces” and standing tables, comfortable couches and movable walls. “Isolation rooms” for when workers need privacy. This diversity of spaces, experts say, is more productive, and it’s not the Googles and Facebooks of the world that are driving this workplace design plan.
