Using Graphic Design To Speak Up
May 14, 2025
Salt Lake City just made a bold design move by unveiling not just one, but three new city flags that celebrate inclusion and community, each one an example of graphic design used for social impact. With vibrant color palettes and very intentional symbolism, the Sego Belonging, Visibility, and Celebration Flags were created to represent the LGBTQ, trans, and Black communities. At a time when state laws are clamping down on expressive symbols, these flags show how design can bypass limitations and still speak loud and clear. It’s a reminder that visual identity isn’t just about aesthetics…it’s about values.
