The Future of Illustration is Human

Every year we love guessing what design trends are coming next, but heading into 2026 the story feels refreshingly and thankfully human. Despite all the AI panic, illustration is far from disappearing. Artists are doubling down on what machines can’t replicate: handmade textures, strong personal connections, emotional storytelling, playfulness, and bold color. Less perfect, and much more expressive. The kind of work that feels lived-in, intentional, and unmistakably made by a real person is on the horizon, and we are looking forward to it.
