Microsoft has a New Look for the New Year

Quietly, and with very little fanfare, Microsoft has updated many of the icons for its software offerings. The 100 redesigned icons encompass its apps and services, including the Windows logo. The new icons use a range of colors, with ample use of gradients and are unified under a sleek new aesthetic. Jon Friedman, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of design and research, described it as “building off the familiar,” and this can be seen in the end results, as the icons have only been tweaked instead of undergoing complete overhauls. According to Friedman, the icons are the company’s signal to “innovation and change” while “retaining familiarity.” What do you think of the new look?
