The first commercially-printed Christmas card just went up for auction, and it fetched a hefty $18,000 price. The coolest part, however, isn’t the price or even the age of the card: it’s the fact that at the time, it was quite scandalous! Commissioned by a patron, illustrator John Calcott Horsley created the card and it went into public circulation in 1843. Its illustration was too “scandalous” for followers of the puritanical Temperance movement in England, who took offense at its depiction of underage drinking.

Masks are an everyday accessory now, and two international fashion councils, the British Fashion Council and the Council of Fashion Designers of America have partnered to produce designer face coverings. The councils brought the designers together, and the masks are produced by Bag of Ethics. Featuring designs by big names both here at home and across the pond, the outsides of the masks are gorgeous, and the insides have messages of positivity to help you get through the tough times.

Glassblowing and other glass art is so cool, watching artists create beautiful pieces from the super heated glass is mesmerizing! Loren Stump is a California glass artist who takes what you think you know about glass art, and bumps it up many more levels! The self-taught artist is a master of murrine, a 4000 year old glass making technique from the Middle East. Layers of differently colored glass are combined into a lump that doesn’t look like anything special…until you slice it like a loaf of bread.

As EVERYONE is aware, these are crazy times we’re living in right now! It’s been fascinating seeing the world adapt to a new reality, and design is no exception. Design is supposed to lead the way, and I don’t think we’ve been disappointed! The newest design adaptation that has caught our eye is by Kleenex. They’ve updated their packaging and product line with a COVID world in mind, including the addition of face masks and hand sanitizer.

Google has launched their app Task Mate, where you can help them out by taking photos, recording lines, or transcribing recordings, and getting paid for it!
