Toilet Brush…or Picturesque Lake?

This isn’t one of our normal IKEA admiration posts, it’s more of a “Country of Sweden” admiration post! As you probably know, a lot of the products in IKEA’s catalog are named for places in Sweden. Sweden wants to clear up some of the confusion, and make sure potential visitors see the real beauty of the place names they’ve become familiar with, even if they have trouble pronouncing them. It’s a very clever and out of the box campaign to capitalize on Sweden’s biggest export!

Textile design is like graphic design to the nth degree. Not only do you need to make a beautiful design, but it has to be repeatable, seamless, and be able to be produced within the limitations of the weaving machines. That’s before you even get into fabric weights, textures, and component materials. Dutch textile company Byborre has a new software out called Byborre Create that lets you test your designs–with actual yarn colors, textures, and weave patterns–safely on your computer before putting it into production and getting a nasty surprise.

As you may know, at KEYLAY Design, packaging design is one of our loves. And there is one particular piece of packaging that everyone is familiar with, but probably doesn’t know the origin of…we sure didn’t! And that is: the honey bear. Why was a bear selected to be the shape of the bottle of honey? It doesn’t let it flat pack. It doesn’t have superior innate structural strength. When the bottle debuted, it was difficult to produce with the manufacturing methods of the time.

EnChroma makes glasses that can correct color blindness….so their adverts in the London tube stations take advantage of the red and green color combination that many colorblind can’t see to drive home the necessity of their product.
