Bauhaus, But Make It Feminine

Today we’ve got a little graphic design history lesson: Söre Popitz was a trailblazing designer who brought a feminine take to the very male-dominated world of Bauhaus-era graphic design. As the only known woman to pursue a commercial design career after studying at the Bauhaus (talk about pioneering), she created striking modernist work for clients like “die neue linie” magazine. Her clean and abstract style reflected the influence of her famous mentors from the Bauhaus school while her illustrations put the everyday lives of women first and foremost, leaving behind a quiet, but powerful legacy in design history.
