Honey Bear History
Dec 01, 2021
As you may know, at KEYLAY Design, packaging design is one of our loves. And there is one particular piece of packaging that everyone is familiar with, but probably doesn’t know the origin of…we sure didn’t! And that is: the honey bear. Why was a bear selected to be the shape of the bottle of honey? It doesn’t let it flat pack. It doesn’t have superior innate structural strength. When the bottle debuted, it was difficult to produce with the manufacturing methods of the time. Turns out, it was a fun idea from a pair of beekeepers to differentiate their product in 1957, and that turned into the Dutch Gold Honey Company. The design was never patented, so that’s why so many brands use it today! To make sure your packaging stands out and stands the test of time, get in touch with KEYLAY today!
